What our clients are saying about us and our trips...

With web review sites being all the rage these days, it can be a little difficult to sift through the debris to actually find out what a place or hotel is like. From our point of view, having stayed in 99% of the hotels and safari lodges we sell (and quite a few we don't), we think that these reviews can be very misleading as it is impossible to know what the reviewer likes, was looking for, paid etc. etc. In our opinion our job is to find out what you like and match the correct product to you...see how we have done. (please note that ALL of the reviews we feature are 100% real and unedited. If you would like to speak to any of our past clients please let us know)

Furthermore, we have started to gather customer reviews through Trustpilot so please take a look at our page on there to see how we are doing. Trustpilot Reviews >>

Hi Gemma

Words cannot describe our honeymoon!

An unforgettable experience from start to finish, thank you so much! It was amazing 3nights in Roho Ya Selous on our first safari (which will not be our last) and the remaining 5nights in Zanzibar. On safari we saw plenty of Game including wild dogs, lions and quite a few babies!

So many stories to tell and special moments that we will cherish forever. We cannot recommend you and your company enough!

You has been so helpful throughout, from planning our trip, within our budget, to giving us handy tips beforehand, you were always there if we had any queries with a quick response. Everything ran smoothly - no stress. A professional and friendly company.

I'm not sure how we can ever top this holiday! We have fallen in love with Africa!!

Hi Nick

The holiday to Uganda was a very successful and rewarding adventure. I have a lifetime memory of a beautiful country, the diverse scenery, the friendly Ugandan people, amazing variety of fresh local good food, and most especially the Gorillas and the Chimpanzees - and the commitment to their conservation. Once again, thank you and best wishes.

Shall be in touch re future adventures.

Dear Gemma,

We had an excellent trip with all logistics and travel plans working as expected. You put together a good itinerary taking in The Selous, Ruaha and finally Mafia island.

We especially wanted to travel in the green season to see the difference from the burnt dry landscapes. We knew it would be hotter and humid in February but were a little concerned that the wildlife would be difficult to see. It was certainly hot, especially in the Selous but we had no problems seeing wildlife which was very abundant.

In the Selous we saw a huge pack of 27 wild dogs with cubs twice, three separate prides of lions one with very young cubs , several breeding herds of elephants, buffalo and of course multiple Giraffes and Impala. We stayed at Roho Ya Selous which is a new tented camp beside one of the lakes . The staff were excellent and our guide Penuel who stayed with us for the three days was very knowledgeable. The tents are very well appointed with all round mesh and inner mosquito nets.

You are very close to Hippos which provide a wake up call as they return from grazing in the early morning. The cooling air above the beds was helpful for sleeping with the very high humidity at this time of year . The boat trips made for an interesting change from the vehicle Safari and we came across hardly any other vehicles when out on game drives. We saw the wild dog pack again during our stay and also leopard walking through a wooded area on the way to the airstrip for the flight to Ruaha .

In Ruaha we stayed at Ikuka camp which has one of the best views in Africa looking out across the park. The rooms are very comfortable and open all round to maximise the view which is even better than the photographs on the website. Being higher up it was cooler than the Selous and pleasantly warm. The grass was tall but again we saw plenty of wildlife and in particular large herds of elephants.

Bird life was very varied. The Buffalo herds were not in the area at this time of year but everything else was around. Ikuka is a very special camp with excellent guiding but it is the view that really sets it apart. Unfortunately the park authorities had banned walking safaris due to the thickness of the bush at this time , however this did not really detract from our experience and it was really good to observe wildlife in such a green and lush environment . We hardly ever saw another vehicle on game drives so we felt we had the whole park to ourselves . I could not recommend Ikuka and Ruaha more highly!

We then moved onto Mafia island staying at Pole Pole . This was more than a beach holiday , I would liken it more to a marine safari experience with excellent daily excursions many of which are included in the room rate . The hotel is located in the marine park providing snorkeling trips followed by lunch on exposed sandbanks and all using wooden Dhows made from mangrove wood .

The highlight for us was swimming with whale sharks arranged by the hotel through Kitu Kilbu a tour operator who follow responsible codes of conduct and are researching their behaviour with a marine biologist accompanying every trip . We swam with four separate whale sharks on the half day trip . Worth travelling to Mafia island just for this experience . Pole Pole is well run with good food and service with pretty beachside huts. The ceiling fan was essential with the high humidity . The beds were a little uncomfortable compared to the very high quality we had become accustomed to at the safari camps but this was sorted out very quickly by the hotel manager Julie.

An excellent trip!!

Many thanks for all your help

Best regards

David

Dear Gemma

We are indeed home from the safari. I wanted to say a massive thankyou to you for organising it - everything ran smoothly overall and we had an absolutely amazing time.

Definitely one of the best holidays we have ever been on!

Firstly, Kimondo camp was absolutely stunning - from the management, to the accommodation, to our guide Musa (superb!), to our housekeeper Charles - they made this stay phenomenal. They were so attentive to detail it was unreal. Musa was such an adept guide - he knew pretty much where to find the animals (of which we saw a cheetah kill on the first afternoon), multiple lions, even a jaguar plus a host of other things. His demeanour was such that he was calm, explained things to us, let us take ample photographs and was very flexible around times to go and leave drives. We thought this made it such a wonderful personal touch to our holiday. The food was also great too.

Overall, we would definitely recommend Kimondo and we had a great time there. Namiri unfortunately, had its issues and should really be sold as a luxury accommodation with the option of seeing occasional game if one wanted to. I just wanted to be honest about our experience with Namiri to you so that you were aware of what went on.

Kind regards

Faisal

Hi Gemma,

Thanks so much for all your work in booking this amazing adventure for us!!! We loved the three different components of our trip!

The connections you booked for us with Coastal Air all worked very well for us. The Lake Manze Camp in Selous was simply amazing! We appreciated that each group of guests had private safaris with the same vehicle, guide and driver each day. Even though there was only 3 of us in the camp for two days, the other person had their own jeep and safari crew. It meant that the guide got to know our interests and what we had already seen. Each evening we planned what kind of safari Gary and I wanted to do - we chose a full-day (9 hr.) safari one day, two evening boat safaris on the river, a 'bush breakfast' safari where we went off early morning for 1/2 day and ate breakfast set up on a camp table.

One day we chose to just sit on our veranda for most of the day and watch the animals in the camp then go on a 4pm boat safari. Our hosts and managers were very hospitable and saw us off each day and welcomed us back when we arrived. There was no Wifi in the camp which added to the ambiance in the evening where we gathered for drinks and dinner at a long communal table where we could chat with other guests. There was no electricity in the camp at night and it was very romantic with coal oil lanterns and candles for dinner.

This safari area is much less touristy than some other we heard about and at most we saw 3 other jeeps on one day of our safari, all gathered around a den of lions. Other than that, we rarely saw other vehicles so if felt like we were in the wilderness by ourselves. The food was amazing! We can't say enough about this camp and would highly recommend it to anyone.

We were very pleased with Multichoice Safaris and our driver who picked us up at the Onsea and drove us to the Amini Maasai Lodge. However, we would not recommend a safari in Arusha National Park. There are very few animals and offroading is not allowed in the park and therefore if you see any animals they are usually at such a long distance away that you can't take photographs. Even our guide said that there were not many animals in the park and that most tourists go to the Serengeti or Ngorongoro crater. We cut the safari to a 1/2 day from a full day and returned to the Maasai Lodge for lunch because it was hot and quite boring.

The Maasai Lodge experience exceeded our expectations and was one of the highlights of our trip. The Maasai were so welcoming and friendly and so eagar to teach us about their culture. The service was outstanding and staff worked very hard to please us. Our mud hut was very comfortable and well planned. We were served coffee and tea at dawn each morning in our hut so that we could watch the sunrise over Mt. Kilimanjaro. We used the infinity pool frequently on hot afternoons. Our 'life in the day of a Maasai' was an unforgettable experience and we came away with many stories and memories which we will savour for a lifetime. We recommend at least a 2 day stay with the Maasai to fully immerse and appreciate the complexity of their culture.

Overall Gemma, you did an amazing job for us putting this trip together and we can't thank you enough for making this trip such a 'trip of a lifetime!!

All the best,
Arlene & Gary Dickson

Hi Gemma,

Thanks so much for checking in - we had an absolutely amazing time, all places were incredible!

We particularly enjoyed how different the experiences were in both Little Govenors and Ol Seki Hemingways - the terrain in each part is completely different and we were able to see different animals! We managed to see all of the big 5 except for the Rhino - which means we'll have to go back! The camps organised some wonderful little honeymoon surprises for us as well which were wonderful.

As for Zanzibar, Baraza was absolutely beautiful and we had a really lovely relaxing time!

I just wanted to mention, not sure if you were aware, but Safari Link do direct flights from Wilson airport (Nairobi) into Zanzibar. Some other guests staying at Ol Seki did that and avoided the day's wait in Nairobi for the evening flight. Perhaps this is something that would be good at arranging for next time, not sure what the cost difference would have been?

Thank you so much for organising this, it was truly an unforgettable trip!

Hi Gemma,

What an incredible safari we had! Your recommendation of Lake Manze Camp was absolutely perfect for our family.

We enjoyed how close we were to the animals - we had an elephant wander through camp one lunchtime and two lions actually walked by our tent in the middle of the day (which was a little too close for comfort, but the masai guards were super awesome and we felt safe).

We saw so many amazing animals - we did two trips per day, including two boat safaris (with fishing). Our guide and driver were excellent <./strong>(Jackson and Omari) - very knowledgeable and made great efforts to make sure we saw every animal in Selous. We were fortunate to see the wild dogs several times and actually follow them on two hunts - one for a baby giraffe (which thankfully they didn't get) and the other for impala which ended in a kill. OMG what a thrill!! Our two daughters will never forget this experience - they learned so much.

Malcolm was heading up camp during the time we were there (the usual managers were away) - he says he set up the camp at LM originally and works in corporate in Dar Es Salaam. He was amazing, engaging and knowledgable - we really enjoyed meeting him.

All in all, such a great experience. Thank you for your help with planning our trip and helping us choose the safari experience that was right for our family.

Thank you,
Charlotte

Hi Gemma,

Sorry for the delay getting back to you, just had to get some things in order.

Thanks for your email and your help throughout the booking process and to Nick and the whole team. We appreciated very much that there was always someone there for us, especially when our plane was delayed and we needed to change plans quickly. It was a huge relief that Nick quickly set us up in the Hotel Slipway which actually ended up being a nice addition to our trip.

We loved both halves of the trip equally although the safari was probably the more unforgettable of the two just due to its nature - that's not the type of thing you see every day. Our highlights from Lake Manze included having two male lions walk right past our land rover, one even did a full lap around the vehicle to inspect it, allowing Allison to get a picture of the lion in portrait mode on her iphone (you have to be within 8 feet of the target or else it won't work correctly so that tells you how close we were)! On the last morning we were there, we woke up to a lion walking through camp not more than 20 feet away from our tent and then on our drive out to the air strip, we got a little stampede of zebras crossing the road in front of the jeep and another couple lion sightings, as well.

After all that excitement, Boutique Hotel Matlai made for excellent R&R. While there, we caught up on our rest but also did some snorkeling in the small coral reef and got up early one day to go snorkeling/swimming with a group of about 20 blue dolphins. We made reservations and had a delicious meal at The Rock Restaurant which was only a 10 minute walk down the beach and a nice boat taxi out to the restaurant at high tide (you should consider adding this to your description of the Boutique Hotel Matlai, many of the other travellers were discussing the restaurant while we were there and we were happy that we had reservations!) The entire staff at BHM made us feel very relaxed and at home and sought after our every need and indeed we were sad to have to leave.

Unfortunately, we did have some minor bad luck getting around (of course, our plane delay on the way down forcing us to stay in Dar, then also at various points our taxi had a flat tire, of course the taxi that had the wrong date to take us from the Zanzibar airport to our stay at Hotel Matlai and finally our booking through Kenya Airways on the way back had some confusion and added stress as they had us on a different flight than what I booked and due to overbooking our preferred flight, couldn't get us back on that one). But we rolled with it and didn't let it hamper our stay one bit.

In short, our trip was unforgettable and we thank you very much for putting it all together for us.

We'll definitely be coming back to Africa sooner than later, will use your agency again and maybe even come back to the same camps and resorts some day because we loved it so much. We're finally settled back in and will definitely be leaving feedback on the sites you sent us to show our appreciation.

Thank you so much!

Eric and Alison
