Review

Located centrally, aside from the hectic alleyways and close to the ocean, sits Jafferji House and Spa. It has nine boutique suites, each individually designed with African fabrics and colours. Its restaurant is locally referred to as the ‘Mistress of Spices’, and rightly so as it prides itself in its Zanzibari flavours and Swahili dishes. Since the closure of Masahriki Palace, we would definitely recommend Jafferji, matching the same level of luxury, service and authenticity.

Location

Jafferji House is situated in Stonetown aside from the hustle and bustle of the alleyways. It sits close to the hustle and bustle of the lanes and is behind the Old Fort and the Forodhani Gardens, a prime location for wandering the streets of Zanzibar Town.

Layout

The building was originally built about 100 years ago and in 1993 Javed Jafferji established a shop on the ground floor - Zanzibar Gallery – and lived there with his family until in 2007. This is when the dream of converting this house into an intimate boutique hotel, fit for future kings, became reality. Jafferji House compromises of 9 boutique rooms, lounge and dining areas and a rooftop bar, nicknamed as the Mistress of Spices.

Rooms

The nine boutique rooms are individually designed and decorated. Their interior reflects the name (Mercury Suite, Out of Africa Suite, the Spice House Suite etc.) with colours, fabrics and locally crafted furnishings. The rooms are all well-appointed and have beautiful en-suites, some with large bathtubs to relax in after a day of exploring Zanzibar's history!

Retains the charm and authenticity of Zanzibar
