Located right up on the Mara River, Sayari Mara Camp is definitely one of our favourite camps in the Serengeti and is perfect for those looking to experience the Migration herds in the July to October window, when the herds are mingling around this area. a beautiful camp, everything has been thought of, with great views, stunning rooms and swimming pool....the only problem with it these days is that it is too popular and so can be booked a year in advance!

As the above suggests, Sayari Mara Camp really is the full package. Set up in 2008 as the Lamai wedge region of the Serengeti really started to open up, Asilia, the company that owns it, drew on all of their experience in other camps such as Oliver's and Olakira, to push the boat out and build what is now their flagship camp.

Location

In the perfect location, just north of the Wogakuria Kopjes and south of the Mara River, Sayari Mara Camp is a short drive to some of the most important crossing points for the wildebeest and so, in season, this phenomenon is almost guaranteed (almost!). Another real feather in their cap is that they are almost the only camp that is allowed up in this remote region meaning that, even in the busiest season, you can spend days without seeing another vehicle.

Rooms

The rooms themselves have been cleverly designed, on wooden plinths, in a way that allows the breeze in during the heat of the day to cool them, without feeling drafty. They have been tastefully decorated with simple colours that reflect the surrounding wilderness, and used simple furniture that is elegant and robust.

Layout

The communal areas and swimming pool at Sayari Mara Camp have also been well thought out to make the most of this great region of the Serengeti, where the sky really does meet the vast open plains of East Africa. Come and stay here and you will see what we mean...a great camp!

Finally the camp at Sayari was a true treat and we were very lucky to get the upgrade. The place was first class and the guiding remarkable. The area you chose for us was very special and we were able to see two river crossing as well as enjoying more lions, leopards , antelope etc than we could have hoped for, plus other far rarer animals which even the guide got excited about.

A couple of highlights I would like to share would be at the Sayari Camp in the Serengeti. We had the most amazing tent the honeymoon suite and our guide Elia really made this camp our favorite. He found all the animals we wanted to see and got us into position for two crossings. We were part of a “safari Ferrari “race to get in position for a crossing and Elia got us in a great location for the crossing but most of all he was so much fun to spend the days with. We were the first out every day and the last end he really went above and beyond to make our trip something we will talk about for a life time.

All the accommodation and staff were superb and your recommendations were spot on, safaris at Serengeti and Ngorongoro crater were brilliant managed to see the big 5 and several wildebeest crossings. The camp staff at Sayari presented us with a bottle of champagne and sung to us for our 25th wedding anniversary something we will remember for ever.

Sayari Camp was great, everyone was very friendly and helpful. Whilst there I had an allergic reaction to Malarone and they were very good about looking up symptoms and giving me so cream and antihistamine.

The Serengeti was just amazing. The Wildebeest were starting to mass and we were lucky enough to watch 3 river crossings even though I would have liked to have seen the mass crossing, I think we were a week early. Thomas was desperate to see a croc attack but by the end he was so happy that they all got across safely, even though there were a few who looked like they were either going to get swept away or taken by the croc who was bearing down on them.
